This IP core allows the implementation of 3 different IP options, namely "MAC + PHY", "PHY only" and "MAC only".
for LFCPNX/LFMXO5: All options are supported
The 2.5 Gb Ethernet MAC transmits and receives data between a host processor and an Ethernet network. Its main function is to ensure that the Media Access rules specified in the IEEE 802.3 Standards are met.
The Ethernet Media Access Controllers (MACs) and Physical Layer Devices (PHYs) are connected through 16 Gigabit Media Independent Interface (GMII-16bit). The Physical Coding Sublayer (PCS) and Physical Medium Attachment (PMA) functionality in this IP core is implemented following the IEEE 802.3 specification.
