This IP core allows the implementation of 3 different IP options, namely "MAC + PHY", "PHY only" and "MAC only". While "MAC only" is only applicable for LFCPNX, "MAC + PHY" and "PHY only" are only supported on LAV-AT.
The 10 Gb Ethernet MAC transmits and receives data between a host processor and an Ethernet network. Its main function is to ensure that the Media Access rules specified in the 802.3 IEEE Standards are met.
The Ethernet Media Access Controllers (MACs) and Physical Layer Devices (PHYs) are connected through 10 Gigabit Media Independent Interface (XGMII). The Physical Coding Sublayer (PCS) and Physical Medium Attachment (PMA) functionality in this IP core is implemented following the IEEE 802.3 10G Base-R specification.
